Yes, as discussed on the list, this has been done, and was deliberate.
Supporting non-free formats is not what Xiph exists for. Additionally,
the load produced by the directory service was too much for our
existing server - we'd consider re-introducing this support if someone
rewrote the software to be vastly more efficient.
