Err... the stats.xml page provides a superset of all the information
available from status.xsl/status2.xsl, in a convenient parseable form.
Hardly worthless. Anything doable from status2.xsl is doable in a more
direct form from stats.xml, or through an alternative xsl file.

You can use the xsl to produce whatever output you want directly (the
xsl files are used to transform stats.xml internally), rather than 
using an external program.
