I saw that too. a lot of EE times articles are just regurgitated
PR, which is fine I guess for trade magazines, but usually not that
balanced. as you hint at, FLAC latency can be tuned down to the 2-10
msec range too, and libFLAC has encoding modes that are nearly as
fast as decoding. even more is possible with a hardware
implementation, but it's been a while since I wrote any HDL and don't
have the spare time for it.
