And when you put in an http url, does it tell them they are idiots for
not compiling it in?  

I also think adding a warning:

********** WARNING **********
You have selected not to compile with libcurl.  This means
that you will not be able to play streams on the internet, and
you will be limited to files in your filesystem or via stdin.
*****************************

Otherwise I fear we will get more bug reports.
