[annodex-dev] Google Summer of Code project proposals

Annodexers,

It's been suggested that Annodex and Xiph.org do a joint proposal for
the Google Summer of Code this year. Xiph was invited to participate
last year, and the considerable number of annodex people who helped with
project mentorship and application sorting were a great help. So while
the focus of our two projects are different, I think our interests
dovetail well and we can put together a stronger application together
than we can separately.

I've got a collection of our project ideas, largely unedited from last
year up at http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/Summer_of_Code If you've got
something you think would make a good student project for either annodex
or xiph, please put it up there. This goes for interested students as
well as mentors.

Things are more formal this year, with organizations having to submit a
proposal to Google to be accepted into the program. I'll be acting at
the primary contact, unless someone else wants the job, but I need help
putting the proposal together. The submission window is March 5-12, so
we have a week. A list of what we need to address is here:

Also, last year accepted a number of students who were either
underqualified or undermotivated. I hope we've learned some things about
mentorship, but we're also going to be much more active about screen
applicants this year. If you're interested in participating as a student
you *must* contact us over email and irc, join the mailing lists, and
generally be around so we can get to know you before you can be
accepted. The best thing you can do is to pick something you're
interested in and start contributing code at the same time you're
preparing your application to google.

Have at, and good luck to us all!
