OK - I'll put

jm: Beta1 files don't sound as good as RC2 files, but the same decoder
will play them both. That same decoder will play files from 1.0,
and 1.2 or whatever.[1]

[1] Version 1.0RC2 or later decoder is required for full backwards 
and forwards compatibility.

Is that fair? In a way it's a non-issue, because anyone reading this 
will go and get RC3 or later. But I think it's worth clarifying.
